Publisher Bandai Namco disabled the online features of the PC version of Dark Souls games in January after a hacker revealed a remote code execution vulnerability in a stream. FromSoftware indicated a month later that the servers would remain offline until after the release of Elden Ring, but that the cause of the problem was known and a solution was being worked on. Elden Ring appeared at the end of February.
The Dark Souls III servers went back online in August, followed two months later by Dark Souls II: Scholar of the First Sin. Dark Souls: Prepare to Die, which was released in 2012, will no longer receive online support, because the game’s system is said to be too outdated.
