Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition has Steamworks functionality
Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition players can transfer their save files and achievements from Games for Windows Live to Steamworks. However, the update is temporary and the end date is set for February 16.
If gamers have not transferred their save files and achievements to Steamworks by then, there is a chance that all game progress will be lost. The update no longer requires logging in on two platforms to play Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition, IGN writes. The migration would not go completely smoothly. Some players claim that the game no longer functions after the update.
The developers describe how players can change the Games for Windows Live functionality to Steamworks functionality. The explanation is aimed at gamers who have already purchased the title or will do so before February 16. Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition will come standard with Steamworks functionality after that date. A few months ago, there were rumors that Microsoft had completely stopped supporting the Games for Windows Live service. That turned out not to be the case, but Bioshock 2 and Dirt 3, among others, were already transferred to Steamworks by the developers.
The original Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition was released in 2012, and the game was also released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The sequel of the game was released for PC earlier this year and a PlayStation 4 and Xbox One edition will follow in 2015.
