Dark Souls board game hits Kickstarter goal in three minutes
The Kickstarter campaign for the Dark Souls board game has reached the £50,000 goal in three minutes. At the time of writing, the counter stands at around £200,000 and several stretch goals have also been scored. The project will run until May 16.
The campaign went live on Kickstarter on Tuesday evening, after it was previously announced. Within three minutes the target of 50,000 British pounds was reached. To sign up for the board game, 80 pounds must be paid, converted more than 101 euros.
According to the creators, the Dark Souls board game, just like the digital game, is strategically very challenging. The game is suitable for one to four players, solo or in co-op mode. Participants choose from different classes and must battle monsters, including famous bosses from the game series.
In addition to the minimum target amount that had to be raised to get the board game into production, there are several stretch goals, which if they are achieved, add extras to the game. Some of that has already been achieved and announced, but the more money that is raised the more goals are added, up to £1million.
The makers of the board game say they will also announce expansions during the campaign. Backers can sign up for this by increasing the amount they have pledged by the amount the add-ons cost. It is not yet known how much that is.
The Dark Souls board game is made by Steamforged Games under license from Bandai Namco, the publisher who owns the rights to the Dark Souls games. Steamforged previously had success on Kickstarter with Guild Ball; a medieval tabletop football game. With that project, the makers raised a small 94,000 pounds.
