Daimler unveils interior of electric Mercedes EQS with 56″ dashboard screen
Automaker Daimler has unveiled the interior of the Mercedes-Benz EQS, a fully electric, unreleased sedan. Probably the most notable feature is the 56″ dashboard display, which is an optional addition.
This is the so-called MBUX Hyperscreen. That is the name of a wide, elongated screen in which several screens actually overlap. The width is more than 142cm and according to the manufacturer the glass used is ‘curved in three dimensions’ so that occupants can see elements on the screen without distortion.
According to Daimler, the right settings are immediately shown on the screen based on the context, so that the rider does not have to scroll through submenus or give first voice commands. The system is powered by an undisclosed processor with eight cores and 24GB of RAM is available.
The manufacturer states that the car makes frequent use of artificial intelligence, whereby the car itself notices things and adjusts settings accordingly. For example, the EQS can have up to 350 sensors that map all kinds of elements, such as light conditions, speed, temperature, seat occupancy, the spoken language or the eye movements of the driver. All this data is managed and controlled by algorithms, on the basis of which decisions are made.
The MBUX Hyperscreen is not part of the standard equipment of the EQS. It is available as an option. Normally, the EQS will receive the current MBUX generation, which is a combination of a 12.3″ screen behind the wheel and a 12.8″ screen in a vertical orientation in the middle. The EQS will be officially unveiled on April 15.
