Daily Epic Games Store Users Increased 192 Percent
In 2020, the number of daily active users of the Epic Games Store increased by 192 percent to 31.3 million. Customers spent more than $700 million in the game store. That makes Epic Games known.
During the peak in gaming platform usage, 13 million players were active and that peak was 7 million in 2019. Competitor Steam recently reached the milestone of 25 million concurrently active players.
In addition to growing 192 percent in daily active users, the number of monthly active users of the Epic Games Store increased in December from 32 million in 2019 to 56 million in 2020. That’s down from June last year, when Epic reported 61. million monthly active users.
In total, the Epic Games Store has more than 160 million users. Epic Games reports the growth figures in a 2020 update, which also states that of the $700 million spent by customers, 35 percent was spent on third-party games, or $265 million. Epic’s in-store range increased from 190 games in 2019 to 471 in 2020.
The company’s strategy to gain market share was to buy off exclusivity, offer higher developer fees and provide free games. The latter topped it off with 103 games, which were claimed 749 million times. Epic promises to make more titles available in 2021 and provide developers with tools to self-publish games on the Epic Games Store platform.
