Cyberpunk 2077 publisher settles deception case for $1.85 million
Cyberpunk 2077 publisher CD Projekt and investors who have sued the company for deception have reached a settlement. The developer wants to pay $1.85 million and the prosecutors will drop their complaints.
Under the agreed settlement, the plaintiffs will waive all claims against the publisher and CD Projekt will pay out $1.85 million. That amount must be divided among all participants in the case. It is a relatively small amount, notes The Verge.
After the release of Cyberpunk 2077, several investors filed lawsuits against CD Projekt, alleging that the publisher was dishonest about the state of the game on consoles. During this year, four cases were merged and that merged case has been settled. The court is expected to approve the settlement.
Before the game’s release, CD Projekt said in a conversation with investors that there were no issues with the console versions. When the game came out, it turned out to be different. Sony even removed the game from the PlayStation Store due to the many problems and bugs. After that move, the value of CD Projekt shares fell sharply. Only six months later, the game could be purchased again in the Sony download store, after developer CD Projekt RED had released several patches.
