A first version of CyanogenMod 14.1 has appeared on the CyanogenMod website for the OnePlus X. This makes it possible to install Android 7.1 on the phone. It is a nightly version, so there may still be bugs.

The nightly can be downloaded from the CyanogenMod website and has a size of 385.7MB. With the availability of this update, Android 7 is now available for all OnePlus devices by sideloading the firmware onto the devices.

Whether Android Nougat will also be officially made available by OnePlus is unknown. Last month, the company announced that it is working on an update to OxygenOS for the OnePlus 3 and the OnePlus 2. The OnePlus X, which came out later than the OnePlus 2, was not mentioned.

There have been rumors for some time that Google did not allow phones with socs that did not have Vulkan support, such as the Snapdragon 801 in the OnePlus One and OnePlus X, not to receive an official Android Nougat update. Despite this, Lenovo has announced that the Zuk Z1, which has a Snapdragon 801, will receive an official update to Nougat.
