Curiosity shows images of sand dunes on Mars

The Curiosity rover has arrived at the so-called Bagnold Dunes on Mars after a long journey. Footage has been shot and NASA hopes to investigate the composition of the dunes, which are located near a large mountain.

NASA has put images online that Curiosity has taken with the so-called Mastcam. The photos clearly show the wrinkled surfaces of the dunes. According to the space agency, the images were shot on November 27, but it took some time for the data to be returned and analyzed.

The sand dunes are located near Mount Sharp, a relatively large mountain with a height of about 5.5 kilometers. The intention is that Curiosity will move towards the higher regions of the mountain in the near future, to conduct further research there. Samples have been collected from the dunes, which are named after the Briton Ralph Alger Bagnold, which NASA plans to analyze in the near future.

Curiosity has been roaming Mars for several years and has provided scientists with many insights into the planet’s composition. One of the most spectacular finds was the recent discovery of what is believed to be liquid water. Incidentally, traces of liquid water had already been found before.
