Crypto.com denies theft of $15 million cryptocurrency after ‘incident’

Crypto exchange Crypto.com denies that customer currency was stolen after a ‘network incident’ earlier this week. Two security companies say nearly 5,000 ethereum has been stolen, with a market value of about $15 million.

The crypto exchange said on Monday that there was “unauthorized activity” on user accounts and therefore made it impossible to withdraw crypto from the exchange. Only when users logged in again and reset 2fa, these recordings became possible again. The company emphasized that everyone’s cryptocurrencies were safe.

A day later, security companies said CertiK and PeckShield on Twitter that Crypto was stolen. According to PeckShield, it concerns at least 4600 Ethereum, CertiK speaks of 4836 Ethereum and 282 affected users. Crypto.com User Ben Baller wrote on Monday 4.28 having lost ethereum; that same day he allegedly recovered the stolen cryptocurrency got back again from Crypto.com.

On Tuesday Crypto.com CEO Kris Marszalek reiterated that no customer had lost crypto and that customers were unable to withdraw currency for about 14 hours due to the incident. Marszalek promises to come up with more information after an internal investigation.
