CryEngine gets support for Vulkan API and mobile GPUs
CryTek will support the Vulkan API from CryEngine version 5.3. The game engine will therefore be able to run on Android in addition to Windows and Linux. The update will be available in mid-November.
CryEngine 5.3 will also support Nvidia PhysX. CryTek has also released information about version 5.4, which is scheduled for the end of February 2017. That update will include support for multi-Gpu in DirectX 12.
Vulkan is a graphics API largely based on AMD’s Mantle. Like Mantle and DirectX 12, this api is built to have less overhead than other APIs, such as OpenGL and older versions of DirectX.
According to CryTek, the new CryEngine supports mobile GPUs, provided the Vulkan API is used. That means developers can also make Android games with the engine from November. In Android 7, Vulkan is the primary graphics API. Some Android 6 devices, including the Nvidia Shield TV and Galaxy Note 7, also support the Vulkan API.
