Crucial releases two new SSD series. The BX100 line would be comparable to the current MX100 models, while the MX200 are intended for a higher price segment. In addition, Crucial comes with new configuration and management software.

The Crucial MX200 models feature a Marvell 88SS9189 controller and Micron 16nm MLC chips. There will be three versions, with storage capacities of 250GB, 500GB and 1TB. According to the manufacturer, the MX200 SSDs achieve sequential read and write speeds of 555 and 500MB/s respectively, while the IOPS are 100,000 and 87,000 respectively. The expected lifespan, expressed in the value of total bytes written, is 80, 160 and 320TB for the three models. In addition to 2.5″ models, the MX200 SSDs will also be available in msata, M.2 2260 and M.2 2280 form factors.

With the BX100 models, Crucial is targeting the entry-level segment. The BX100 SSDs are equipped with a Silicon Motion SM2246EN controller and 16nm MLC memory from Micron. Crucial specifies a lifespan of 72TB. There are four models, with capacities of 120GB, 250GB, 500GB and 1TB. Sequential read speeds are 535MB/s for all versions, but write speeds range from 185MB/s to 450MB/s. The 1TB version achieves up to 90,000 iops on reads while, for example, the 120GB model does not go beyond 43,000 iops on 4KB writes.

According to Crucial, both the MX200 and BX100 models will go on sale January 20 at undisclosed prices. In addition, the manufacturer has announced Crucial Storage Executive, a tool to configure and manage branded SSDs.
