Croteam promises levels with hundreds of thousands of enemies in Serious Sam 4
Developer Croteam gives new details about Serious Sam 4, the shooter coming in August on Steam and for Google Stadia. In a video the makers show new weapons and enemies and according to the studio there will be levels with hundreds of thousands of enemies.
Croteam uses the so-called Legion System to display hundreds of thousands of enemies on the screen at once. That says a developer of the studio in a video. No technical explanation of how it works is given. The video shows a short clip with a large crowd of enemies, but extensive gameplay of such a situation has not yet been shown.
According to the developer, some levels will actually contain such huge amounts of enemies. Initially the plan was to populate levels with tens of thousands of enemies, but that can be many more thanks to the technology.
The makers of Serious Sam 4 say it will be a challenging game that throws players right in at the deep end and doesn’t build up the gameplay slowly. In the video, the developers show, among other things, new weapons and enemies and explain the music in the game.
Serious Sam 4 is due out in August and will initially only be available on Steam and for Google Stadia. The game will also be coming to consoles sometime in 2021. The game can be pre-ordered on Steam for $34.
Serious Sam 4 has been in the works for a number of years, but it was quiet around the game for a long time. Publisher Devolver Digital and developer Croteam now speak of a ‘new announcement’. Previously, the game had the subtitle Planet Badass, but in the new communication that is no longer the case.
The first Serious Sam game appeared in 2001. The last regular game in the series is Serious Sam 3: BFE, that game came out in 2011. All games in the frenetic shooter series are made by Croatian Croteam.
