Crash test organization Euro NCAP releases app that helps with liberation from car

Euro NCAP, the European organization that tests cars for safety, has released a Euro Rescue app for emergency services. The app contains so-called rescue sheets, which include the placement of batteries and power cables in cars.

The app is intended for the fire brigade, for example, to free people from a car after an accident. The app, which can also be used offline, contains a database of Rescue Sheets, which are made available by car manufacturers. These manuals are prepared in a standardized format and contain essential information about the placement of parts that could pose a hazard when extricating victims from a car.

The app also includes Emergency Response Guides from car manufacturers. These are more extensive manuals with instructions for emergency services, about how their cars are put together and how occupants can be freed as quickly as possible after a crash. According to the NCAP, such information is increasingly important as more electric cars are on the road. High voltage cables and batteries can pose a danger to both occupants and emergency services.

The Euro Rescue app is available for Android and iOS and is currently available in English, French, German and Spanish. From 2023, the app will be available in all European languages. The app is also used outside of Europe: the Australian equivalent of the Euro NCAP has released an Ancap Rescue app, based on Euro Rescue.
