Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled gets microtransactions
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, the June-released remaster of the original Crash Team Racing, will be getting microtransactions starting in early August. A dinosaur-themed race track will also be added for a limited time.
Publisher Activision reports that starting in early August, there will be a way for players to accumulate in-game currency faster than usual. To this end, players are given the option to buy these so-called Wumpa Coins in bundles through the digital stores of the used game console. Activision says it will now fill the Pit Stop, basically the racing game’s in-game store, with new and returning characters and cosmetic items.
“With all the content now available, there will also be a way for players to quickly expand their collection,” the publisher said. The company emphasizes that these bundles are in addition to the Coins players earn by playing the game and that the option of microtransactions does not change the core gameplay mechanics.
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled was released on June 21 for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One. The racing game is a remaster of Crash Team Racing, which was released for the original PlayStation in October 1999. That original game was created by Naughty Dog, the studio behind the Uncharted series and The Last of Us. The current remaster was created by Beenox, the studio responsible for the racing portion in Skylanders Superchargers.
