Crackergroep 3DM suspends work for a year ‘to measure the effect on the market’
Chinese Cracker Group 3DM will cease operations for a year from next Monday to measure the effect of the absence of cracks on the video game market. The group did not say exactly how this will be measured.
3DM has announced this on its Chinese website, Torrentfreak writes. While 3DM chieftain Bird Sister says this is an experiment to see if the absence of their cracks has a positive effect on video game sales, the news coincides with the absence of new cracks for recent games. For example, 3DM has so far failed to create cracks for the new Windows games Just Cause 3 and Rise of the Tomb Raider. These games both come from publisher Square Enix and use Denuvo, a technology that encrypts the underlying copy protection of the games.
Bird Sister was also the one who recently made the statement that in two years time there may be no more piracy in gaming, because copy protections are getting too advanced. However, the Chinese Bird Sister itself makes no connection between the one-year strike and the problems with Austria’s Denuvo technology. 3DM will continue to translate games for the Chinese market. As far as we know, other cracker groups such as Skidrow and Reloaded are still busy with their activities.
