Corsair acquires company that makes visuals and widgets for game streams
Corsair has acquired Visuals by Impulse. That is a design platform aimed at gamers, for adding overlays and widgets to game streams. VBI’s services will be integrated into Elgato, a company previously acquired by Corsair.
VBI has been around since 2015 and provides graphic designs that can be added to streams on Twitch, YouTube and Facebook Gaming. More than two hundred thousand streamers use the company’s free designs. It has not been disclosed what Corsair will pay for the acquisition. All employees will join after the takeover. The founder of VBI remains general manager.
Visuals by Impulse is housed by Corsair under the Elgato brand, which is known for capture hardware. In 2018, Corsair acquired Elgato’s hardware business. Elgato still exists as a brand name within Corsair.
VBI’s visuals are integrated into Elgato products, such as the Stream Deck and the EpocCam app, which allow users to use their smartphone as a webcam. After the acquisition by Corsair, VBI can invest more in development and personnel, the company writes. This should result in more free designs, among other things.
Corsair has acquired several companies in recent years. In addition to Elgato and EpocCam, controller maker SCUF Gaming and PC builder Origin PC were also acquired.
