Corning comes with Gorilla Glass for midrange smartphones
Corning has presented its first version of Gorilla Glass specifically for midrange smartphones. Until now, midrange smartphones often used older versions of Gorilla Glass.
It concerns Gorilla Glass 7i, says Corning. The i after the name stands for 'industry-leading innovation for intermediate devices', the company says. There is no Gorilla Glass 7, instead the company switched to Gorilla Glass Victus several years ago as the naming convention for the chemically strengthened glass.
Corning discloses few details. Many midrange smartphones use Gorilla Glass 3 from 2013 or version 5 from 2016. It is not clear from the announcement or the product page. Almost all smartphones have chemically tempered glass. Corning is no longer the only provider of this.
