Core i9-13900K is the first CPU ever to reach a record clock speed of 9GHz

Overclocker Elmor has set a new speed record on an Intel i9 CPU. It reached a clock speed of just over 9GHz on a Core i9-13900K, certainly 0.2GHz more than the previous record.

The result has been shared via HWbotalthough the verification is not on yet CPU-Z’s record list state. The record was set by Swedish overclocker Jon Sandström, known by his alias Elmor. It reached a speed of 9008.82MHz on a 13th generation Intel Core i9-13900K CPU with only the performance cores deployed. The team got the speed up on a single performance core, while the other cores ran at a more normal speed.

He teamed up with a team from ASUS, who also provided the Z790 motherboard, to break the world record. The Z790 Apex was built specifically for overclocking and was used in a previous record attempt. For example, that board only has two DDR5 slots. In addition, Elmor set up his own pot, or container, in which he poured coolant.

In his previous attempt, Elmor used liquid nitrogen, which cooled the processor to -196 degrees Celsius, but this time he used liquid helium. As a result, the temperature in the cooling dropped to -250 degrees. Elmor says there was only enough helium available to cool the CPU for up to an hour.

The new record comes just two months after the same overclocking team set the previous world record for CPU speeds. Then Elmor reached a speed of 8812MHz with a similar set-up. In doing so, he broke a record that dated back to 2014. In 2014, The Stilt reached a clock speed of 8722MHz on an AMD FX-8370 CPU.
