‘Core i7 of Raptor Lake Refresh will have twenty cores, including twelve E-cores’

The Core i7 variant of Intel’s Raptor Lake Refresh will have a total of twenty cores. The number of E-cores increases in the i7-14700K from eight to twelve, says Moore’s Law Is Dead based on roadmaps and sources.

Moore’s Law Is Dead says in a video that the number of cores for the upcoming Refresh of the i7 from Raptor Lake will increase. The Core i7-14700K will have twenty cores, while the current Core i7-13700K still has sixteen. This is due to an increase in the efficient cores or the E-cores. The current Raptor Lake model has eight Performance cores and eight E cores, but according to Moore’s Law Is Dead and according to some other leakers does the refresh have more of those E-cores. This also means that the i7-14700K has an extra cluster for those cores. The L3 cache is also increasing in size; in the new version of the SoC this goes from 30 to 33MB.

One of the leakers, @wnxod, says he has already run the new CPU through CPU-Z and Cinebench. It shows that the new i7-14700K has a base clock speed of 3.7GHz and a maximum boost clock speed of 5.5GHz, more than the 5.4GHz of the current model. However, this concerns the speed on the P-cores and not the extra E-cores, which usually operate at clock speeds between 3 and 4GHz.

An earlier roadmap already showed that Intel wants to release the Raptor Lake Refresh later this year. Those models are expected to be released in October this year. It then turned out that the models will have 14 to 24 cores.
