Contact for indies leaves Nintendo
Dan Adelman leaves Nintendo after nine years of service. The American was responsible for contracting indie developers within Nintendo. He wants to continue promoting indie games in the future. Nintendo continues its work.
In the lengthy explanation, Adelman states that his work has been completed as the reason for his departure. Nintendo now has a team that works with indie developers and that team will continue to exist. Adelman now wants to promote the brand awareness of indie games outside of Nintendo.
He states that although the market for independently designed games is still growing, the brand awareness of the various games still leaves something to be desired. He does not announce whether Adelman will be employed somewhere or will start his own business.
Adelman was Nintendo’s spokesperson for indie games for many years. Nine years ago, the American set up the department that has to persuade indie developers to release games on Nintendo’s platforms. In that role, Adelman brought games such as World of Goo, Cave Story, Little Inferno and Shovel Knight to Wii U and 3DS.
In the many interviews that Adelman gave on behalf of Nintendo, he rarely minced words, which brought him into conflict with his employer. In October last year, he was even banned from Twitter by Nintendo. When a 3DS owner complained via Twitter that the handheld is region-bound, Adelman said he understood the fan’s sentiment.
