Frontier is indefinitely postponing the release of the major Elite Dangerous: Odyssey expansion for consoles. The developer does that to free up time to fix the issues with the PC version. The expansion for the PC was released in May.

With the Odyssey expansion, Frontier added several new capabilities to space simulator Elite Dangerous. Players can now also land on planets and explore them on foot. Despite a month-long alpha period, there were many issues at release. Players have to deal with server outages, performance issues, various bugs and also the interface is much criticized.

Since the release of the Odyssey update, Frontier has already released several patches for the PC version, but not all problems have been solved yet, much to the dismay of players. Frontier writes on its forum that it understands and understands the frustration of many players: “The community has spoken, we have heard the feedback and will act on it”.

Because the developer has been working on bug fixes in the PC version of Odyssey lately, work on the console version has come to a standstill. Frontier now says that the PC version will be prioritized and that work on the console version will not resume until the PC version issues have been resolved. When that will be is not yet known. The console version of Odyssey has therefore been postponed indefinitely. According to an earlier schedule, it should have been released this fall.

In the coming months, Frontier says there will be more updates to the PC version, which should fix bugs and improve performance. Frontier also says it is working on new features and improvements for the game. The studio will inform players about the developments on a monthly basis.
