Complete source code for Grand Theft Auto V has reportedly been posted online
The entire source code of Grand Theft Auto V has reportedly been made public, along with a Python script from GTA VI and files from the canceled Bully sequel.
X user GTA Focal came first with the news that the entire source code of GTA V has been leaked, also sharing a screenshot of a list of files. According to the user the source code was uploaded to Discord by an unknown account, and this is the same code, part of which was already released in 2022. The original download link has already been removed, but in several group chats this is reportedly still being done shared frequently. There are a lot of alleged source code files floating around online, including A picture from an early map of the game. There are also a lot of files related to Rockstar’s game engine Rage.
GTA V’s source code isn’t the only thing that’s been leaked. There is also found a Python script of GTA VI. This confirms that the game had the working title ‘Project Americas’, as Bloomberg previously stated claimed. Also be a bunch of files from the sequel to Bully appeared, a game that Rockstar canceled years ago. It is still unclear exactly what files of the latter game are present, but it seems so to go a very early alpha version.
In 2022, a small part of the source code was already posted online as part of the GTA VI leak. The uploader then threatened to leak the entire source code. Although that didn’t end up happening, the person did reportedly sell the code to some individuals. Presumably one of them has uploaded the code now. It is still unclear what the precise implications of the leaked source code are. This may make it easier to design and use mods for both GTA V’s single player and online mode.
