Company to release 3.5″ 100TB SSDs in the summer
Nimbus Data company has announced its ExaDrive DC line of SSDs for data centers. The SSDs are available with storage capacities of 50TB and 100TB in a 3.5″ housing with a SATA600 interface.
The ExaDrive DC SSDs are constructed from 3d mlc nand from SK Hynix and contain four controllers developed by Nimbus Data and a management processor. The sequential read and write speeds are at 500MB/s and random read and write is done at 100,000 iops. Idle the SSDs consume 10W, in use that is 14W.
Nimbus Data targets data centers and other enterprises that want to move from HDDs to SSDs, hence the 3.5″ enclosure and the SATA600 interface. This would provide companies with advantages in terms of consumption, cooling, size of storage systems and reliability. The manufacturer also speaks of the support for an unlimited number of write cycles for the warranty period of five years, which is not surprising given the size of the drive in combination with the write speed.
The ExaDrive DC SSDs will appear in the summer, but the prices are not yet known.
