The Japanese company Fixstars is launching a SATA SSD with a storage capacity of 3TB. The SSD-3000M thus has the highest storage capacity of a SATA SSD with 2.5″ form factor to date, claims Fixstars. The company focuses on media professionals, among others.

In addition to the 3000M, Fixstars releases the 1000M with a capacity of 1TB. The manufacturer also claims to release a model with a storage capacity of 5TB in the first quarter of 2015, but it is unclear whether the 5000M will also be a 2.5″ SATA SSD.

The SATA600 SSDs are built around 19nm mlc memory and offer sequential read speeds of 520MB/s and write speeds of 350MB/s, which could be increased to 500MB/s via a boost mode.

Fixstars targets professional content producers, advanced driver assistance systems, hpc applications and data centers with the drives. After an earlier introduction in Japan, the drives will be available in the US. The 1TB model will be priced at $990 there. It is unknown what the price of the 3TB SSD will be, and it is also unknown whether a European release is in the offing.
