Company behind Ragnarok games bans European users from AVG from 25 May
Gravity Interactive, through its publisher WarpPortal, has announced that it will no longer allow EU players to its games after the General Data Protection Regulation comes into effect on May 25. It concerns games such as Ragnarok Online and Dragon Saga.
The company announced the change on its own WarpPortal forum, in a thread with no response options. In it it writes that the blocking is based on IP and that it applies to all European users, with the exception of Russian players and people in the Commonwealth of Independent States with countries such as Kazakhstan, Belarus and Moldova. It gives no reason for the decision other than a ‘change in its terms’. The company may not be able to meet the GDPR obligations or it may not be economically interesting.
WarpPortal has made changes to the end of its terms and conditions and privacy policy, stating that European users are no longer welcome. Players react critically in another forum topic and want their money back. WarpPortal writes in the announcement that it will refund purchases made by players between February 1 and April 30. The company has several games to its credit.
