Company behind Homey controller raises million euros
The company behind the voice-activated assistant Homey, Athom, has raised a million euros from investors. The company announced this on Friday afternoon. Athom wants to use the money to further develop the Homey and bring it to the market.
The Homey became known through a successful Kickstarter campaign, which was set up more than a year ago by Emile Nijssen (WeeJeWel) and partner Stefan Witkamp. In the campaign they profiled the assistant as a ‘smart’ module that can control numerous equipment in the living room thanks to voice commands.
Nijssen and Witkamp now speak of a ‘great year’. “It is fantastic to see how well Homey has been received by everyone. After our Kickstarter campaign last year, we started working hard. Team expansion, developing for production, and now actually producing,” Nijssen writes in a statement. Athom now fifteen developers are working on the Homey.
Nijssen and Witkamp expect the Homey controller, whose platform is open to developers, to appear on the market after the summer. That will happen after those who bought the device through Kickstarter receive it. With the money from the hitherto unknown investors, Nijssen and Witkamp hope to be able to increase production and build up stocks.
