Companion app for Google Pixel Buds earbuds appears in Play Store

A companion app for the upcoming Google Pixel Buds earbuds has appeared on the Play Store. In addition, the earplugs can now also be pre-ordered from an American retailer for $179. The earplugs were announced in October.

The app appeared quietly in the Play Store last week, 9to5Google writes. The application is compatible with Android phones running Android 6.0 or newer. As previously announced, the product will work with touch controls. The Pixel Buds also offer a find my device function, with which a sound signal can be sent to one or more earplugs. ‘Adaptive sound’ is also mentioned. This function should adjust the volume of the earbuds based on the ambient noise. The earbuds can also detect when they are removed from an ear and pause playback audio accordingly.

The Pixel Buds have also appeared at American retailer B&H. The earplugs cost $179 there. Converted and with VAT, that comes down to about 200 euros. That same dollar price was already mentioned last year when the Pixel Buds were announced. The product is for sale as a ‘new item’ which is expected soon. The webshop is accepting pre-orders at the time of writing. Only the white version of the earplugs is for sale there.

The new Pixel Buds have already appeared online at B&H, writes 9to5Google. Then the retailer removed the pre-orders it had received, telling customers that the earplugs would be released in late April or early May. Google itself stated in October that the earplugs would appear on the market in the spring of 2020. An official release date has not yet been announced by the company.
