‘Companies will pay a thousand dollars a month for a golden check mark on Twitter’

Twitter would like to charge companies $1,000 a month for a gold verification check. The company is currently finalizing plans for this, although that price could still change, writes The Information.

The Information has obtain internal documents stating that the company would ask for a thousand dollars, the equivalent of 923 euros, per month for the golden yellow check marks that now exist on the platform. That amount would apply per company, not per account. In addition to the thousand dollars, Twitter also wants to ask fifty dollars for verification checks of related accounts.

According to documents from The Information, the plan is currently being finalized, but prices could still change. Companies that do not pay for verification will automatically lose their check mark in the future, although it is not yet clear when exactly this will happen.

Twitter has been trying to monetize verification checks and associated subscription features in various ways since its acquisition by Elon Musk. The company has often completely overhauled the verification process and UI in recent weeks and then regularly reversed it. Since November there have been golden yellow ticks, which are only intended for governments and companies. It is not clear whether governments will soon have to pay for the golden check mark. There is also a gray check mark that indicates that a company or organization has been verified, but that no payment has been made for it.
