Compact Sega Mega Drive holds 80 games and supports original cartridges
A Chinese company will release a compact version of the Sega Mega Drive in Europe in October that includes 80 games as standard and supports the original cartridges of the old console. The retro console is not equipped with HDMI.
At Games supplies the Sega Mega Drive Classic Game Console with two wireless controllers that work via infrared, but the original wired controllers can also be connected. Although there is a slot for the original cartridges, At Games warns that there is no guarantee that all old cartridges will work with the system. The console must be connected to a TV with a composite cable; HDMI support is not available.
At the same time, a handheld version of the Mega Drive will appear that has an SD card reader to add games. This console also has eighty games as standard, including Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2 and 3, Mortal Kombat 1, 2 and 3, Golden Ax 1, 2 and 3, Altered Beast and Alex Kidd.
Sega is licensing the consoles, which were to be released in honor of Sonic’s 25th anniversary, among other things. The consoles will be released in Europe in October, FunstockRetro reports. The Mega Drive from At Games previously appeared in the US under the name Genesis Classic Game Console. Compared to that release, the selection of games has been adjusted. For example, Sonic 3D Blast is now present, as well as Phantasy Star 2 and 3, but other games, such as Street of Rage and Ecco, have disappeared.
