Community-developed Surface Pro competitor sells out in a day
Within hours, the first stock of 500 units of the Eve V was sold. This 2-in-1 comes from the Finnish company Eve Tech, which let the community put together this Surface Pro competitor.
On Monday, the IndieGoGo campaign for the Eve V started and three hours later the pre-orders of the first 500 units were gone. The manufacturer will deliver those Hyper Early Bird models in February; a new stock will follow in April. Within four minutes, the goal of raising $75,000 was reached, after which it was certain that the first copies would be produced.
The Eve V has been compiled entirely based on feedback from Eve Tech’s approximately 2,000 community members. There were eventually three configurations of the 2-in-1. For $699, the company offers the V m3, which has an Intel Core m3, 8GB of RAM and a 128GB SSD. The $959 V i5 includes a Core i5 and a 256GB SSD. The most expensive version is the version with Core i7. 16GB and 512GB SSD, $1399. All processors are from Intel’s Kaby Lake generation. Retail prices for the m3, i5, and i7 versions of the Eve V are $300, $530, and $770, respectively.
The Eve V should stand out against the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 in particular with better specifications and a lower price. The screen is also 12.3 inches and, just like the Surface Pro, shows a resolution of 2736×1824 pixels. The contrast ratio and maximum brightness are slightly higher. The battery capacity of 48Wh is also slightly higher than the 39Wh of the Surface Pro 4.
In addition, there are more ports; there is a duo usb 3.1 gen. 1 ports, there is USB 3.1-c and there is USB-c with Thunderbolt 3. In addition, there are four instead of two speakers and there is a 2×2 WiFi-ac network card. The power button includes a fingerprint reader and there is support for N-Trig for use with a stylus. This V Pen is available separately for $39.
