Code in iOS points to mouse support on iPad

The iPad may receive support for mice and trackpads in the future. The code of iOS 14 shows that Apple is working on a possibility to connect external mice to the tablet. That’s an indication that the new iPad keyboard may be getting a trackpad.

The clues were discovered by 9to5mac. That looked at the code of the new operating system for the iPad. They saw pieces of code that refer to different mouse options for the tablet. It would be an extension of the mouse options that are in iOS 13 under the accessibility settings. In iOS 14 there are more options, such as having the cursor disappear automatically if a user does not move the mouse temporarily. It would also be possible to set multiple types of cursors. Next to the arrow, for example, it is about a hand when hovering over the left. Also, Apple is said to be working on the same gestures used on macOS, such as tapping with two fingers as an alternative to the right mouse button.

The code also points to two new Smart Keyboards that Apple is said to be working on. They would get a trackpad. The fact that more Smart Keyboards are coming would also mean that they will be available for multiple iPad models.
