The new management of the American news channel CNN is pulling the plug on its own paid streaming service CNN+. The service will no longer be available from April 30, about a month after it was introduced by previous management.

CNN’s new CEO, David Zaslav, ruled according to the American Axios along with his team that there was little long-term potential for the paid streaming service CNN+ and that the service could even pose a financial risk to the company. The previous management had invested $300 million in the creation of the streaming service, according to Axios, and a total of $1 billion would be invested in CNN+. The service had to make a profit after 4 years.

It is not yet clear what will happen to the titles on the streaming service. According to sources available to the Axios editors, the new management is considering including the shows and series on the CNN app or adding them to its offerings on HBO Max.

In the summer of 2021, the American news channel CNN announced the paid streaming service. CNN+, unlike CNN, had to offer more depth. Hours of live programs were also broadcast daily. According to then chief digital officer Andrew Morse, the news service hired hundreds of people and CNN developed dozens of TV shows for the paid service. According to Axios, CNN+ had about 150,000 subscribers. CNN+ became on March 29 this year introduced shortly before the merger of parent company WarnerMedia with Discovery.
