Clubhouse: scraped data from users has come out via api

The scraped data from Clubhouse users that appeared on a hacker forum this weekend is accessible to everyone via an api. This allows anyone to build a database of Clubhouse users.

Anyone can use the API according to Clubhouse find the username of that person on Instagram and Twitter in addition to name and photo, as well as information about when the account was created and the number of followers. With the data from the api it is possible to link Clubhouse users to their other accounts on social media. It is unclear how valuable such a database is.

It concerns a total of 1.3 million scrapped accounts, Cybernews reports. With scraping there is no intrusion into a company’s system, but hackers use publicly available information on, for example, profile pages to build a database of users. It is unknown how the data was collected.

Update, 9:12: This article initially mentioned a public api, but it turned out not to be from the Clubhouse app covered in this article. The link and information about it have therefore been removed.
