Club 3D makes active adapter that converts displayport 1.4 signal to hdmi 2.1
Club 3D has announced an active adapter that, according to the company, can convert a displayport 1.4 signal to hdmi 2.1. Output of 4k at 120Hz or 8k at 60Hz is possible using Display Stream Compression.
With the adapter, it should be possible to display images in 4k resolution at 120fps from a PC on a 4k TV with HDMI 2.1, which can also handle that refresh rate. This is not possible without such an adapter, because there are no video cards with HDMI 2.1 and no TVs with displayport.
Whether the Club3D CAC-1085 adapter offers official support for HDMI 2.1 is not clear. The manufacturer mentions on its site that the adapter is suitable for display at 4k with 120hz and HDR support and also mentions HDMI 2.1, but the company does not mention other features of that standard, such as variable refresh rate.
A video card with Display Stream Compression 1.2 support is required to use the adapter. That technique was announced in 2016 and seems to be present in recent video cards in any case.
The active adapter must be powered via a USB cable. The box has a USB-C connection and Club 3D provides a USB-C to A cable. The adapter is in the Pricewatch for 75 euros, but is not yet available. It is not yet known when the adapter will be released.
