Cloudflare Releases Mobile App for DNS Service 1.1.1.1
Cloudflare has released an app for Android and iOS that users can use to run DNS requests via 1.1.1.1. This is Cloudflare’s privacy-friendly DNS service, which was announced by the company earlier this year.
The mobile app for 1.1.1.1 is on the Play Store and the App Store, Cloudflare reports. The app shows a simple switch that indicates whether the dns traffic goes through the 1.1.1.1 service or not. Cloudflare announced this on April 1 to give users the ability to ensure their privacy through a high-speed DNS service.
According to Cloudflare, many DNS services that users connect to automatically do not respect privacy and are often slow. Cloudflare promises never to write IP addresses to storage and to delete all logs for the DNS service within 24 hours. The company has instructed KPMG to conduct annual audits and to report on them publicly.
In addition, according to Cloudlfare, 1.1.1.1 can be used to bypass DNS blocks, which are set by authoritarian regimes as a censorship measure. In 2014, opponents of a DNS blockade instituted by the Turkish government promoted the address of Google’s comparable DNS resolver: 8.8.8.8. They did this by putting 8.8.8.8 on walls with spray cans.
