Cloud Media comes with uhd media player
Cloud Media, formerly known as Syabas, has announced the OpenHour Chameleon. The media player has a quad-core soc from RockChip on board and, according to the manufacturer, is powerful enough for UHD image display using the h.265 codec.
In addition to four Cortex A-17 cores, the RockChip RK3288 soc, which is passively cooled by the aluminum housing, also has sixteen Mali T764 GPU cores. According to Cloud Media, this soc is significantly more powerful graphically than its predecessor, the RK3188 with a Mali 400 GPU, but also, for example, faster than Qualcomm’s popular Snapdragon 800 soc. The media player contains 2GB DDR3 RAM and 8GB internal flash storage.
Cloud Media further reports that the media player has three USB 2.0 connections, as well as a micro-SD card reader, an optical and coaxial S/PDIF output, and a gigabit Ethernet connection. A WiFi module is optional. However, it is unclear whether the media player has an HDMI 2.0 output for 4k output or whether there is still a ‘classic’ HDMI 1.4 output.
The OpenHour Chameleon runs on Android 4.4. According to Cloud Media, the media player is sufficiently powerful to run games, while XBMC can also be installed on the device. The manufacturer promises pass through for DTS MA and TrueHD audio streams, and the media player can boot directly from an SD card. In the US, Cloud Media charges 149 dollars, or 117 euros. It is still unclear whether the UHD media player will also come to Europe.
