Citrix: hackers gained access to internal network

Citrix has disclosed that hackers have penetrated internal servers. The company has been told this by the FBI, which would involve ‘international cyber criminals’, but the details are still lacking.

The news was made public via Citrix’s blog, but the FBI got in touch about the hack as early as Wednesday. It is therefore not disclosed who exactly is behind it, and it is unclear whether the American authorities already have suspects in mind. Those who infiltrated Citrix’s servers allegedly did so through password spraying, or randomly trying out weak passwords.

That method would have penetrated an internal network, but Citrix is still investigating exactly what was stolen by the hackers. It may be a number of business documents, but there is no indication that data has been stolen from products or services.

As more information emerges from the study, Citrix promises to share it with customers. It is therefore not yet clear to them what the impact of the burglary will be.
