Simulation game Cities: Skylines has sold 12 million copies since its release. The game was released in March 2015 and in 2019 the number of copies sold was still at 6 million. The game regularly gets paid expansions.

Although Cities: Skylines is now more than seven years old, the game continues to sell well. The makers celebrate the number of copies sold on Twitter and game analyst MauroNL sets the previously achieved milestones in a row. This suggests that six million copies of the game were sold between March 2019 and June 2022, more than the five million copies sold in the first three years after release.

The numbers indicate that the game continues to attract new buyers. Developer Colossal Order and publisher Paradox Entertainment state that they are ‘a market leader’ in the city building genre. There are few other recent games that directly compare to the game.

Cities: Skylines was released in March 2015, about two years after SimCity’s disappointing reboot. Maxis, the developer of the SimCity franchise, was shut down in 2015, and no new titles have appeared in the series since then.

Paradox Entertainment regularly brings new expansions out for Cities: Skylines† There are 35 paid DLCs for the game on Steam, with prices ranging from 4 to 15 euros each. For example, the expansions add airports, parks, train stations and industries. There are also many radio stations for sale as DLC. The game is available for PCs, for consoles and as a VR version for the Meta Quest 2.
