Cisco to lay off 1,300 employees
Cisco plans to reduce its workforce by two percent, equivalent to roughly 1,300 jobs. The network equipment manufacturer has not specified which parts of the company people should leave.
It is also unknown in which countries the layoffs will occur. Cisco reports only that the layoffs are the result of plans to improve business operations. The company also indicates that it will continue to look at areas where the organizational structure can be improved. Further layoffs are therefore a possibility.
The layoff comes almost a year after the company announced a mass layoff that saw the loss of more than 10,000 jobs. At that time, 4400 layoffs and 2100 people chose to take early retirement. An additional 5,000 employees at a factory in Mexico came to work for manufacturer Foxconn as a result of an acquisition.
