CIA hackers also stole data from detainees and terrorists

The hackers who recently broke into CIA Director John Brennan’s email account stole more data than was initially apparent. For example, a portal of the American authorities containing information about detainees and information about terrorism has been broken into.

It concerns the hacker group ‘Crackas With Attitude’, Wired reports. The site has been in contact with one of the group’s hackers, who provided evidence of the break-in. According to this person, who goes by the pseudonym “Cracka”, his group gained access to a data portal used by US authorities, including the police and the FBI. Through this portal, called the Joint Automated Booking System, it is possible to find information about people who have been arrested by the police.

This database also contains information about persons who have yet to appear in court. “All personal details” of these people were available, the hackers reported. If information about their arrest is released, it could be harmful to them. Problems are also foreseen for the fight against crime, because detainees are sometimes used as informants for the police. For example, criminals can find out that the police are on their trail.

The hacker group also gained access to information about shootings and possible terrorist activities through the aforementioned portal. The portal also contains all kinds of tools, such as a chat service for staff and file exchange. There is also access to all kinds of software for fighting hackers and digital attacks.

For the time being, it is not clear how the hackers gained access to the data portal; because they are still collecting information from the servers, the vulnerability used will not be released for the time being. It is unclear whether the US authorities are aware and have already sealed the leak.

The hacking group ‘Crackas With Attitude’ previously broke into the private mailbox of CIA Director John Brennan. They allegedly received a total of 40 emails with attachments. In their own words, the group consists of minors.
