‘Chromebooks in Europe not nearly as popular as in the US’
Europeans buy very few Chromebooks compared to Americans, Acer says. About 1 to 2 percent of laptops sold in Europe are said to be Chromebooks, compared to up to 30 percent in the United States.
That would be because Europeans have a ‘less open mind’, a top man of the European division of Acer told NuTech. He does not specify why a Chromebook requires an open mind, but presumably he refers to the operating system: on Chromebooks that is Chrome OS, unlike, for example, Windows.
Manufacturers would also release Chromebooks in fewer European countries. In the past year, however, the necessary laptops with Chrome OS came on the market. Manufacturers mainly use the operating system on cheaper laptops, sometimes with ARM processors or otherwise often with less powerful Intel CPUs. Google itself did release its Chromebook Pixel. Other Chromebooks include from Samsung, Lenovo, HP, and Acer. Apart from the claim of the Acer CEO, no figures are known of Chromebook on the European market.
