Chromebook users complain of performance issues after Chrome OS update
Several Chromebook users are complaining about slower performance after a Chrome OS update. This is version 91.0.4472.147, the most recent stable version of the operating system.
The bug was initially reported on Reddit. Since then, the problem has also appeared in the Chrome Bug Tracker. Users report there that the CPU usage of their Chromebooks is unusually high after the update, even if no applications are open. Sometimes the CPU usage would be stuck at 99 percent.
As a result, several Chromebook users report significant performance drops in the Chrome browser and other parts of the operating system. A Reddit user states that typing in the terminal is also slow on his device. A few report that the problem persists after a factory reset and disabling all Chrome extensions.
It’s not clear how many Chromebooks are experiencing performance issues following the recent Chrome OS update. AndroidPolice writes that the problem is mainly reported by Chromebook users with the board name grunt or hatch. At the same time, not everyone affected has shared enough details about their device. So it is not clear if the problem only occurs on such Chromebooks.
In any case, it is advisable to wait a few days before updating to this version of Chrome OS. For example, users can prevent the update by not shutting down their laptop, Android Police also writes. Regular Chromebook users have no option to disable automatic updates.
