Google will indicate in Chrome when websites load slowly. How exactly that should be done is not yet known, but the company wants to make that clear in any case while the website is still loading.

In the near future, Google wants to experiment with ways to indicate slow websites in the browser. In a blog post that Google has written about it, there is nothing about the search engine itself and whether the indication will also be included. Google says it doesn’t yet know exactly what the function will look like, but the company wants to try out different ways to do that.

One of those ways is to show a warning while a webpage is loading. It states that a page ‘usually loads slowly’. Initially, Google looks at earlier loading times. Later, the company may also want to make predictions based on the network speed and the user’s device. The company is also thinking of changing the color of the loading bar. A green loading bar could then mean that a website loads faster than average. Ultimately, the predicted loading time should appear in the context menu of a link so that users know how fast a site loads before they click on it.

Speed has always been an important part for Google. For a few years now, the speed of websites has been an important factor in search engine optimization. Faster loading times ensure that a website appears higher in the search results.
