Chrome OS seems to be getting notification indicators
In the code of Chromium, indications have appeared for the arrival of notification indicators in apps. Apps with active notifications would be recognized by an indication in the top right corner of the app icon, just like with Android Oreo.
The commit appeared with the Chromium project under the heading Add Notification indicators for shelf app icons. There are no images of the functionality yet, but ChromeStory deduces a number of properties based on the description and the text of a test app.
For example, the OS seems to show that apps have active notifications in a similar way to Android Oreo apps, which show dots at the top right of the icon on the home screen. Chrome OS seems to be about apps pinned to the taskbar. The feature doesn’t seem to be limited to Android apps, which run on the App Runtime for Chrome, or ARC, with the OS. This can be deduced from the passage “If the notification is for an ARC app, return early.”
In addition, there are indications that touch-sensitive context menus will be added to the notification indicators, possibly also like Android Oreo, with a menu that shows the different notifications.
