Chrome gets a function to convert PDFs into text and read them out loud

Google browser Chrome in ChromeOS gets a function to convert PDFs with images into text and read them out loud.

This is a position for students at schools with reduced vision, reports Google. They are now unable to access the information in such PDFs. The function uses OCR to convert the image into text, which a regular text-to-speech function can then speak. The feature will be coming to ChromeOS in the coming months. Whether the regular Chome browser on other platforms will also get the feature is unknown.
