Chrome Engine v6 gets Linux support
Version 6 of the 3d gaming engine Chrome Engine also supports the Linux platform, according to developer Techland. Chrome Engine v5 is still stuck with support for Windows, Xbox 360 and the PS3, but v6 will also be compatible with the Xbox One, PS4 and Mac OS X.
Techland has now made it clear on its website that Chrome Engine v6 will also support 3D games on Linux, making it easier for game developers who use Techland’s engine to release their titles on the open source operating system. The gaming engine will also be suitable for the new consoles from Microsoft and Sony, while support for OS X is also present.
Chrome Engine v6 should be widely available later this year. Meanwhile, work is already underway on some games based on the new engine that may also appear on Linux. It concerns the titles Dying Light and Hellraid from Techland. The developers working on Hellraid have already received several requests on the Steam forum for a port to Linux and the developer has indicated that a Linux version may be worked on after the Windows release.
