Chrome Canary for desktop and Android gets password checker

The Canary version of the Chrome browser for desktops includes an experimental Password Checkup feature. Until now, this feature was available as an extension. Android also gets the password checker.

The function can be activated via a flag called ‘Password leak detection’ in version 78 of the Chrome Canary. The function checks after startup whether entered passwords have been exposed through data breaches and notifies users that the password has been found on public lists. The user can then change it. The function is also in the password manager and the intention, according to TechDows, is that the user can be led to the page of the service to change the password there.

XDA writes that a recent commit suggests that Chrome Canary 78 for Android will also get the password checker in the password settings. It allows users to enable and disable scanning for insecure passwords. Google announced the password checker as an extension for Chrome in February, and 650,000 Chrome users have used it since. Google has already announced that it wants to expand the service to more services.
