Chinese studio behind successful smartphone games makes Pokémon game
Chinese internet giant Tencent is going to make a new Pokémon game in collaboration with The Pokémon Company. The game is made by TIMI Studio, the studio behind mobile blockbusters like Arena of Valor and PUBG Mobile.
Tencent and The Pokémon Company announced plans for the new game on Monday, reports analyst Daniel Ahmad meldt. There are no details about the new game, but it is likely that the game will be made for smartphones and aimed at the Chinese market. It is not yet known whether the Pokémon game will also come to other continents.
TIMI Studio, part of Tencent, will make the game. That studio is also behind Arena of Valor, a moba for smartphones that, according to Sensor Tower, last year raised two billion dollars. That made it the highest-grossing smartphone game of 2018. The studio has also made PUBG Mobile and Call of Duty: Mobile. For those games too, Tencent works together with the original creators of the games: PUBG Corp. and Activision.
The Niantic-made Pokémon Go was never released in China. However, the game that Tencent will be working on is a completely new game. The Pokemon Company did release Pokemon Quest in China. This was done through a collaboration with NetEase, a competitor of Tencent.
