Chinese media: Microsoft sold 100,000 Xbox Ones in launch week
According to Chinese media, Microsoft sold 100,000 units of the console in its first Xbox One sales weekend in the country. It is the first time in 14 years that a game console has been released in China.
The sales number has not been confirmed by Microsoft, but according to Kotaku, the Chinese game site 17173, among others, reports the number, based on an interview with the vice president of the Shanghai Media Group. This is the parent company of Microsoft’s partner in China, BesTV.
If the number is correct, this is a positive boost for Microsoft, which seemed to be struggling with disappointing sales in Asian countries such as South Korea and Japan. The Xbox One was released by Microsoft in China on September 29. Microsoft has high hopes for sales and hopes to ship a million consoles by the end of the year.
Competitor Sony also wants to bring its console to China through a partner. One of the import conditions imposed after the lifting of a 14-year ban on the sale of foreign consoles in the country is that foreign companies are not allowed to independently sell consoles in the Chinese market.
