The Chinese manufacturer Meike announces its first autofocus lens. It is an 85 mm f/1.8, which is available for dslrs from Canon and Nikon and for system cameras from Sony. A price has not yet been announced.

Meike’s 85mm f/1.8 is suitable for full-frame cameras, according to the Chinese manufacturer’s website, but the maker explicitly mentions aps-c with the Sony version. It is not clear whether the Sony variant actually has a different design that is not suitable for full-frame cameras.

The optical design consists of nine elements in six groups. The minimum focusing distance is 85cm, measured from the sensor. The aperture is adjustable from f/1.8 to f/22, and Meike says the lenses are multi-layered. The manufacturer has not yet disclosed information about the weight, but it is clear that 67 mm filters fit on the lens.

It is not yet known what the price will be, but the Chinese manufacturer will probably be below the price level of the well-known brands. Canon’s 85mm f/1.8, a 1992 design, costs around 375 euros; the Nikon and Sony variants are newer and cost about 500 and 600 euros respectively.
